CALHOUN ACADEMY OF THE ARTS PTSA COMMITTEES
"MANY hands, a LITTLE work, BIG Accomplishments"
1. Accelerated Reader – The PTSA helps sponsor this reading program that allows students to read designated books and then take a test to see how well they comprehend the book. Each test is worth a certain number of points and the students build up their points throughout the year. Students are given the opportunity to spend their AR points at an AR store several times throughout the year. Independent readers should test by themselves.
Volunteer Opportunities: Help with the prizes and/or assist the Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers with children taking tests.
2. Fundraiser – Our Innisbrook Gift Wrap Sale is the largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this fundraiser go toward field trips, student awards, teacher supplies and so much more.
Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers needed to help count orders and to help when orders are delivered to the school in October.
3. Newsletter/ Website- This committee compiles articles from parents, PTSA members and teachers and inserts information into formatted documents, sends to the printer and calls for PTSA members to assist in inserting newsletter into teachers’ boxes approximately four times a year.
Volunteer Opportunities: Assist in gathering information that is helpful to parents, students, faculty and staff. The information should then be forwarded to the committee so they can incorporate it into the newsletter and/or website.
4. Volunteer Services- This committee communicates with room representatives for classroom events and assists other committees in finding volunteers. The committee is vital to communicating with the PTSA volunteers.
Volunteer Opportunities: Assist in volunteering in the classroom, special areas of the school, and for special events.
5. Gingerbread House- The Gingerbread House gives our students the opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for family members. The committe consists of volunteer coordinators and purchasing agents to stock the Gingerbread House with gifts. All students are given a coupon so no child is ever left out.
Volunteer Opportunites: Assist students in the Gingerbread House with shopping, assist with gift-wrapping and re-stocking of merchandise.
6. Hospitality – This committee helps show our appreciation to the teachers for their hard work.
Volunteer Opportunities: Assist with the Teacher Luncheon in August, Teacher Appreciation Week, Valentine Chocolate Fountain, end of year ice cream social.
7. Membership – PTSA Memberships are important in funding programs here at Calhoun and in supporting our state and national PTA.
Volunteer Opportunities: Assist the committee with selling PTSA memberships at school events and to friends and families. Submit membership information to national PTSA annually
8. Incentives- In our community there are grocery stores, discount department stores, and restaurants that give back money to the PTSA when we spend money with them. Bi-Lo, Ingles, Target, Publix, and Office Depot are a few.
Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to be the contact person with a particular store and help circulate information to parents.
